Yrsa Sigurðardóttir / Sigurdardottir

Yrsa Sigurðardóttir (born 1963) is an Icelandic writer, of both crime-novels and children's fiction. She has been writing since 1998.


Her début crime-novel was translated into English by Bernard Scudder. The central character in the crime novels so far is Thóra Gudmundsdóttir (Þóra Guðmundsdóttir), a lawyer.

Yrsa is married with two children, and she also has a career as a civil engineer.

Viktor Arnar Ingólfsson

Viktor Arnar Ingólfsson (born 12 April 1955, Akureyri) is an Icelandic writer of crime fiction. He has a B.Sc. degree in civil engineering and, in addition to having a successful career as a writer, he continues to work full time at the Public Roads Administration in Iceland.


Viktor Arnar has twice been the Icelandic nominee for the Glass Key award, which is awarded by Skandinaviska Kriminalselskapet (Crime Writers of Scandinavia). Three of his five novels have been translated into German, and Flateyjargáta was published in English as The Flatey Enigma in February 2012.

Árni Þórarinsson / Arni Thorarinsson

Árni Þórarinsson is an Icelandic writer born in Reykjavík on 1 August 1950. He received his B.A. in 1973 from the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England.


He started out as a journalist and has worked in print, radio, and television. In 1989 he was on the board of the Reykjavik Film festival. His first novel was in that same year and was a crime novel. He has written several other crime novels some of which may become films.

Arnaldur Indriðason/Arnaldur Indridason

Arnaldur Indriðason (born 1961) is an Icelandic writer of crime fiction; most of his books feature the protagonist Detective Erlendur.



Arnaldur was born in Reykjavík on 28 January 1961, the son of writer Indriði G. Þorsteinsson. He graduated with a degree in history from the University of Iceland (Háskóli Íslands) in 1996. He worked as a journalist for the newspaper Morgunblaðið from 1981 to 1982, and later as a freelance writer. From 1986 to 2001, he was a film critic for Morgunblaðið.

His first book, Sons of Dust (Synir duftsins) came out in 1997, the first in the series with Detective Erlendur. The first two novels in the series have not yet been translated into English. As of 2010, the series included 11 novels. Arnaldur is considered one of the most popular writers in Iceland in recent years — topping bestseller lists time and again. In 2004, his books were 7 of the 10 most popular titles borrowed in Reykjavík City Library. In 2006, his Erlendur novel Mýrin was made into a film, known internationally as Jar City, by Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur.

Arnaldur's books have been published in 26 countries and translated into at least 21 languages, including Russian, Polish, German, Greek, Danish, Catalan, English, Italian, Czech, Swedish, Norwegian, Dutch, Finnish, Spanish, Portuguese, Hungarian, Chinese, Croatian, Romanian, Bulgarian and French.

Arnaldur received the Glass Key award, a literature prize for the best Nordic crime novel, in 2002 and 2003. He won the Crime Writers' Association Gold Dagger Award in 2005 for his novel Silence of the Grave.
